Hand Knit Bunting

Cyril's birthday spread!

My desire to knit came from my younger brother's wife Ami. I met her on the Eve of my older brother's wedding at our parent's farm. We were sitting in the living room enjoying a glass of our favourite local beer when my dad came in to turn on the TV. For those of you who don't know I'm not a fan of watching TV so I was somewhat irritated that our socialisation had come to a close. However, as I sat there, Ami looked so content knitting away unfazed by what was going on in the background. I then realised that if I had something to work on I wouldn't see TV watching as such a waste of time. I immediately asked her for recommendations and when I arrived back in the UK I scoured the website for local knitting groups and yarn shops. My first project was nothing to write home about and since it was just practice it wasn't particularly motivating. However, Josh and I soon found out we were expecting and I began my first real project, a baby blanket. The addiction was born and you'd be hard pressed to find me without a pair of knitting needles close by.

The idea to make the bunting for Cyril's birthday came because I was at a standstill with a shawl since I couldn't figure out the rest of the pattern. Sadly my local knitting shop closed, and therefore lost access to one of my knitting teachers. I tried another shop, the first woman only knit occasionally, and the second woman, an amazing knitter, was dyslexic so she couldn't read the pattern I presented. I therefore had to wait until my mom came to visit in April to finish the shawl. In the meantime I needed a project and with Cyril's birthday a week away I thought this was the perfect distraction.

I was using up leftover yarn from Cyril's baby blanket and used size 4 needles to make this bunting. As you can see from the photo above I knit 5 triangles in different colours and crocheted a strand to sew through the triangles. Now that the party is over the bunting decorates the teepee we bought for his birthday :)

Cast on 26 sts.
Knit 4 rows.
Row 5: K2, p to last 2 sts, k2.
Row 6: K.
Row 7: K2, p to last 2 sts, k2.
Row 8: K1, ssk, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1. (24 sts)
Row 9: K2, p to last 2 sts, k2.
Row 10: K.
Row 11: K2, p to last 2 sts, k2. Rep Rows 8-11 twice more. (20 sts)
Row 20: K1, ssk, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1. (18 sts)
Row 21: K2, p to last 2 sts, k2. Rep Rows 20-21 six times more. (6 sts)
Row 34: K1, ssk, s1, k1, psso. (4 sts)
Row 35: K.
Row 36: Ssk, k2tog. (2 sts)
Row 37: K.
Row 38: K2tog. (1 st)
Break yarn and pull through rem st.

Two Months

I can hardly believe my sweet baby is already two months old, it's seems like a lifetime ago that I was sleep deprived, depressed, and in excruciating pain, not to freak anyone out that is about to have a baby! I've actually been meeting up with some new mums and one of the girls had a really easy labour and didn't struggle at all to breastfeed, in fact she was out and about with her baby girl 3 days after she was born. I wish I could say the same, fortunately Cyril and I have made tremendous progress since then and I have one well behaved and content baby, well most of the time. On Sunday a group of girls and I went to a friend's house for a Baby Calm Workshop and Cyril was very content the whole 4 hours, smiling and interacting for a good portion of the time, and sleeping in my arms the rest of the time. Nearly Halfway There, Yikes!

Well life just seems to be getting ahead of us at the moment.  I swear I need another full day every week just to get caught up on the growing list of things I need/want to do before Baby Soper arrives. Technically I was 19 weeks last Friday but Josh and I have been far too busy, and with the nights closing in on us we had to move the chalkboard photography indoors, otherwise I would have taken my 19 weeks photo this weekend, outdoors, but then I would have already been 20 weeks! ABOUT ME How far along? 19 weeks and 6 days Total weight gain/loss? From 133 (pre-pregnancy) to 141 for a total of 8 pounds! Maternity clothes? Yes and no.  Maternity clothes are more comfortable but I still fit into some of my pre-pregnancy outfits. The skinny pink  corduroys  are a definite no no however, and so is my itty bitty bikini, which means I'll be wearing a maternity bikini in Tenerife and looking like a beached whale! Stretch Marks? Bad Ass Baby Soper

                                   VS             This Rad Hat                                These Bodysuits                          I think the decision is obvious                               While perusing several "baby friendly" websites to get an idea of what the little guy might need once he is born I came to the conclusion that cute  bad ass boys clothes are few and far between.  I would call Josh over to have a look at a few potentials, and his response was always "Eh, not really bad ass enough for our child, don't they have any surfy stuff."  I always commented about how many adorable and stylish options there were for girls but how the boys department never stacked up, I mean grown up men wear fashionable clothes and they're not all baby blue with donkeys and giraffes all over the place.  I know it's a baby, but come on people, no child of mine is going to be caught dead in this  I'm Cute Dinosaur Romper .  So I continued my search,
